In case you haven’t heard, Minerva Rising’s fifth issue, “Turning Points” is out. I’m so proud of the poets in this issue. With poems like “Sunday”, “true story about lake & loss”, and “What the Apple Whispered”, this is perhaps our brightest, most affirmative issue yet. But even though I’ve had the pure joy and privilege of reading the pieces, I’m just like the rest of you who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this vivid, inspired little book in your mailboxes. Why is it that when we’re waiting for the mail, time slows down, but when it comes to getting the 49.7 other To Do’s on our list done plus find time to write, time moves at the speed of a summer firefly, just out of reach and too fast to catch?

So while I wait for my friend at Česka Posta to deliver my very own copy of Issue 5 to my mailbox here in Prague, I can contemplate our upcoming theme for Issue #7, Wilderness.  (Issue #6, Food, is closed for submissions.)

Thoreau wrote, “In wildness is the preservation of the world.”

Your eyes are not tricking you, and there is no typo there.  He chose the word wildness deliberately.  And what could be wilder than wildness?  Wild-er-ness.

Your idea of wilderness may be Manhattan or Maine, the remote seclusion in nature or the remote seclusion we writer types feel in our innermost souls.  Write it, sister.  Write your wild-ness, and then write your wild-er-ness.
