By Jury S. Judge
Sundial peaks cast their angular shadow
By the way of blessed pines
Light travels in splintered sheets
Through the dense virgin forest
Fiddlehead ferns unfurl nervously
Look at the darker edge of green
Soft moss responsive to rain
Tendrils feel the cracked wall
Lichens grown fat on gravestones
Leaves supple and pliant on the branch
Touch the darker edge of green
Green hills dotted white with sheep
Underfoot, lies the ancient peat
Damp grass after a receding flood
An unfamiliar cologne tints the air
Smell the darker edge of green
Flowers are lovely even when they die
Boil their remains for calming tea
Droplets on the moist pink tongue
Were droplets on velvet petals
Taste the darker edge of green
The weary bootshod feet
Wind caresses pine needles
The guitar strings vibrate
Under dirty calloused fingers
Hear the darker edge of green
