Infinity Pond
by Carol Sadtler
Infinity Pond
lap upon lap, around and back
in sparkling aqua circles
our rhythmic kicks aerate
water into froth—arms dip
in synchrony—propel
joy
we are beautiful in our blue and green
swimsuits—my younger sister and I
—like newly-hatched sunfish—know
the wriggle and glide in the shallows
—the ease of a watery world
after your diagnosis you refuse
your dis-ease—now the impetus
to heal with elemental cures—
renew your tissue with herbs
and breath and yes—water
—Iceland’s Golden Circle—we dream
to balm the present with this magic
tour from pond to river to ocean—warm
milky mineral waters—then the shock
of Reykjavik’s winter sea
lap upon lap, around and back
in sparkling aqua circles
our rhythmic kicks aerate
water into froth—arms dip
in synchrony—propel
joy
