I know it’s predictable, but I couldn’t resist posting a picture of my Christmas tree. All the ornaments, except for a few heirlooms, are red and gold. And it’s lit by white lights. I love the simplicity of the colors, but also the richness of them.
It may seem boring to some, especially compared to my childhood trees which were decked with mostly handmade ornaments painted or sewn by my parents and “crafted” by my siblings and I throughout our grade school years. There were multi-colored lights and tinsel, upon tinsel, upon tinsel (my personal favorite) that made everything sparkle. And for many years the trees were real. And tall! 9 and even 10 feet. They were beautifully chaotic.
Now I sit and stare at my fake, less sparkly tree and wonder why I chose a color scheme at all. Why does everything match? Why only two colors? Why white lights? Although beautiful, does it have personality like my childhood trees? Maybe I’m just being overly sentimental this year . . . For now, I’ll sit with a glass of wine and just enjoy and be as sentimental as I want.
Happy holidays everyone.
and happy holidays to you michelle. thanks for the sparkle.
We let our 3-yr-old decorate the tree. It means some fake branches hold the same colored ornaments, and there is definitely a bald spot here or there, but I decided to let go and let her have fun.
It’s not always easy to let the chaos reign or the uncoordinated Christmas tree sit without trying to “touch it up” a bit, but you’re right about the memories it creates.
Happy holidays.
Thanks for your post.
