Nancy Johnson’s novella Awake provides a glimpse into life at a nursing home where resident Frances, the retired microbiologist, takes a bold stand. She doesn’t know it then, but when she dares to defy her doctor’s wishes and ditches offending medication, she sets off a whole new kind of revolution. Awake
is a sometimes poignant, often irreverent story about retired rockers kicking bad drugs, and in so doing, they find life, not just existence, in long-term care

Nancy Johnson lives with her life partner on a lake in the Canadian Shield, about 200 miles north of Toronto, Canada. For over a decade, she has volunteered with family councils advocating for life, not just existence for their loved ones in long-term care. Nancy has been writing fiction forever but since retiring from full-time work in 2019, has made a greater effort to share her stories. Awake is Nancy’s first publication by a fiction press. She just completed a novel about the same cast of characters set during COVID-19 and has resumed work on a manuscript inspired by her Newfoundland roots.
